The available estimates, produced by the Department of Education and Science, relate to the educational and economic activities of 16 and 17-year-olds at January each year. Provisional estimates for Great Britain in January 1984, with equivalent data for 1983, were given by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Education and Science in his reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Carshalton and Wallington (Mr. Forman) on 7 March, at column 597.
