HL Deb 05 June 1984 vol 452 c615WA
Lord O'Hagan

asked Her Majesty's Government:

To make a statement about the transferability of dairy quotas.

Lord Belstead

The transfer provisions in the Commission implementing regulations prescribe that where an entire holding is sold, leased or transferred by inheritance the quota shall be transferred to the producer who takes over the holding. If one or several parts of a holding are similarly disposed of the quota shall be distributed among the producers operating the holding in proportion to the areas used for milk production or other objective criteria laid down by the member state. The regulations also provide for the reallocation of quotas. We are considering with various interests what provision for quota reallocations would be suitable in our circumstances.
