Mr. Nicholas Winterton

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) if he will give a breakdown by region of the numbers of children under 16 years of age who visited family planning clinics and were prescribed contraceptive drugs or devices in each of the last 10 years for which figures are available;

(2) what has been the total annual cost of the prescription of contraceptive drugs and devices to children under the age of 16 years in each of the last 10 years.

Health authorities have been required to send in statistics showing the numbers of children under 16 seen at family planning clinics since 1976. The figures for the years 1976 to 1982 are as follows:
