§ Mr. Nicholas Wintertonasked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) what has been the total annual recorded number and the annual rate per thousand population of the incidence of cervical cancer amongst (a) all women, (b) women over 40 years of age, (c) women aged 20 to 40 years, (d) women aged 16 to 20 years, (e) girls aged 14 to 16 years and (f) girls aged under 14 years, in each of the last 10 years;
(2) what has been the total annual rate and the rate per thousand population of the incidence of cervical cancer amongst girls under 16 years of age who had been prescribed contraceptive drugs or devices on any occasion, in each of the last 10 years for which figures are available.
§ Mr. Kenneth ClarkeWe do not analyse routinely the data on cervical cancer by the precise age-groups specified and analyses could be obtained only at disproportionate cost. However, the following table shows numbers and rates for newly diagnosed cases of malignant neoplasm of cervix and carcinoma in-situ of cervix by aggregates of the age-groups normally published. Rates are shown per million female population for clarity of presentation.
We have no means of knowing centrally whether cancer patients had been prescribed contraceptive drugs or devices.
