HC Deb 04 June 1984 vol 61 cc117-8W
Mr. Sheerman

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many unemployed (i) 16-year-olds and (ii) 17-year-olds were receiving supplementary benefit or unemployment benefit at the latest available date; and how many of these (a) are eligible for the youth training scheme, (b) are ineligible (for stated reasons) for it, (c) have left it and (d) have never joined it.

Mr. Peter Morrison

The following table gives the available information on the numbers of unemployed claimants in the United Kingdom at 5 April 1984, the latest date for which a complete age analysis is available:

Unemployed Claimants: April 1984
United Kingdom
Age Total
16 38,907

The records of claimants to benefit do not identify the requested details on the youth training scheme.
