HC Deb 04 June 1984 vol 61 cc50-1W
Mr. Pike

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what is the total projected annual expenditure for new motorway construction in Lancashire for each of the next five years.

Mrs. Chalker

Once the M65 Whitebirk to Hyndburn section is completed, there will be no remaining trunk road schemes in the current programme to add to Lancashire's motorway network. In the White Paper "Policy for Roadsin England: 1983"— Cmnd. 9059— we announced our intention to undertake a study of the needs of long-distance traffic using the M6 in the Preston area, and consultants will be appointed shortly to carry out such a study and make recommendations.

New construction on the M65 north of Burnley is the responsibility of Lancashire county council.

Mr. Pike

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what was the total mileage of (a) trunk motorways and (b) other trunk roads opened in each year since 1974 in Lancashire.

Mrs. Chalker

The information requested is as follows:

1974 1
1975 12 1

1977 2

Dr. Glyn

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if, in any negotiations for the privatisation of British Airways, he will give consideration to those former employees who have retired on pensions.

Mr. David Mitchell

We shall do so where appropriate.
