§ Mr. AncramThe number of people employed in local government in Scotland in December 1983 was 294,203 in total and 252,145 in full-time equivalents. These figures expressed as percentages of the mid-1983 estimate of population are 5.7 per cent and 4.9 per cent. respectively.
