asked the Secretary of State for Transport what is the average waiting time to take a driving test (a) in England, (b) in the north-west region, (c) in Lancashire and (d) in Burnley.

On 4 May, the latest date for which comparable figures are available, the average wait for an L test was 12» weeks in England and Wales and nine weeks in the north-western traffic area. At Nelson, the test centre for Burnley, the average wait was 11 weeks. No average is kept for the administrative county of Lancashire, but the average waiting period at the centres in the county ranged from six to 11 weeks.
