HC Deb 04 June 1984 vol 61 c20W
Mr. Adley

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment why the contract for the construction of the British high commission in Belize has been awarded to a foreign company; and if he will make a statement.

Sir George Young

A contract for fully-serviced prefabricated buildings required urgently to provide new offices and other accommodation for the High Commission in Belmopan was awarded by the PSA to an American construction firm early in 1982, following extensive inquiries of suitable British firms, none of whom was able at the time to meet the contract requirements.
