HC Deb 31 July 1984 vol 65 c168W
Mr. Deakins

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many United Kingdom civilians are attached to the United States forces stationed in the United Kingdom; who employs them; and who negotiates their terms and conditions of employment.

Mr. Pattie

Approximately 3,600 United Kingdom civilians are attached to the United States forces in the United Kingdom. Of these, some 2,800 are civil servants employed by the Ministry of Defence (but paid for by the US forces) whose terms and conditions are the same as for other United Kingdom civil servants. The remainder are directly employed by the US forces and their terms and conditions are agreed between the US forces and the individuals concerned.
