HC Deb 31 July 1984 vol 65 cc164-5W
Mr. McGuire

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if, in view of the hardship being caused, he will amend the current regulations on the payment of travelling expenses to those attending training opportunities scheme courses so as to allow such claims to be based on the actual travelling costs involved.

Mr. Peter Morrison

No. I am satisfied that present arrangements are fair. The training allowance paid to people attending courses under the training opportunities scheme is pitched at a level which assumes a contribution of up to £4 per week towards the travelling costs of able-bodied trainees. Additional travelling expenses are reimbursed in full. Moreover, disabled trainees have all their travelling costs paid.
