HC Deb 31 July 1984 vol 65 cc198-9W
Dr. Marek

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he has plans to replace the electricity generation facilities on St. Helena; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Raison

I have recently approved the construction of a new power station at a cost of roughly £1.3 million. This should be operational by the end of next year.

Dr. Marek

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what plans he has for teaching to advanced level standard on St. Helena.

Mr. Raison

There are already limited facilities to study to A-level in St. Helena. I have recently given approval in principle for a new central secondary school, which should improve prospects for advanced level education.
