HC Deb 31 July 1984 vol 65 c237W
Mr. Hardy

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many persons in the Rotherham area have been denied unemployment benefit following redundancy from the National Coal Board; and in how many cases this was when redundancy was arranged before the current coal dispute commenced.

Dr. Boyson

Seven people claiming at Rotherham unemployment benefit offices following redundancy from the National Coal Board which was arranged before the current coal industry dispute began, but which did not take effect until after its commencement, have been disqualified by the adjudication officer from receiving unemployment benefit. Of these seven claimants, three have had successful appeals against the decision and two others have lodged appeals which await hearing.

Four claims have still to be initially decided by the adjudication officer. Information about other NCB redundancies is not available.
