HC Deb 31 July 1984 vol 65 cc178-9W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will publish a table showing for each of the member states of the EEC the level of milk production for each year since 1980 and for each of the four quarters during 1983–84.

Data on the level of milk deliveries to dairies are provided in the tables below. The figure excludes on-farm use, use for animal feed and, in general, use for direct sales. The data for 1983 and 1984 are based on monthly returns which are subject to amendment.

Mr. Wigley

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, for each member state of the EEC, what is the latest annual rate of milk production prior to the introduction of EEC quotas; and what will be the production levels for each of these states in 1985 if those levels are to comply with the quota regulations of the EEC.

Mr. Jopling

Data on milk deliveries to dairies in each Member state of the EC were provided in my other reply to the hon. Member of today's date. The statistical basis for these data does not necessarily always correspond to the legal basis of the supplementary levy system. Under that, Member states have available to them quantities for wholesale sales and direct sales as set out below for the 1984–85 marketing year.

Wholesale Deliveries ('000 tonnes) Direct Sales ('000 tonnes)
Belgium 3,138 505
Denmark 4,932 1
Germany 23,487 305
France 25,585 116
Greece 472 1,183
Ireland *5,280 16
Italy 8,323 1,591
Luxembourg †268 1
Netherlands 12,052 145
United Kingdom ‡15,487 398

Note: In addition the following quantities are provided for from the Community reserve:

* 245,000 tonnes.

† 25,000 tonnes.

‡ 65,000 tonnes.

Mr. Wigley

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what was the level of milk production for each year since 1980 in England.

Mr. MacGregor
