§ Mr. BrittanThe estimates which, as police authority for the Metropolitan police, I approved last February provide for net revenue expenditure of £711.8 million by the force in 1984–85. I attach great importance to efficiency and effectiveness and to sound principles of financial management and control in the Metropolitan police, and I have decided that the estimates which I approved in February (and those which I approve in future years) will be treated as a cash limit.
