HC Deb 31 July 1984 vol 65 cc204-5W
Mr. Wheeler

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry whether he has any proposals for further exemption from licensing of low-power radio devices.

Mr. Kenneth Baker

My Department has today published a consultative document which gives details of four categories of low-power radio devices which are considered to be suitable for licensing exemption. These are telemetry and telecontrol for general purposes, some speech communications equipment, doppler and field disturbance devices and emergency alarms for the elderly and infirm. Before making an exemption regulation under the Wireless Telegraphy Act 1949 the Government wish to give those involved with manufacture and distribution of the equipment an opportunity to comment on the proposals. A copy of the consultative document is available in the Library of the House.
