asked the Prime Minister what is the current net monthly job loss in the United Kingdom; how this compares with the net monthly job loss since June 1979; and when she expects jobs gained to equal jobs lost.

The Prime Minister

The number of people in jobs in the United Kingdom has been increasing since March 1983. In the year ending March 1984 the average net monthly increase in the employed labour force was 22,100. The employed labour force also increased in 1979; the average increase in the second half of 1979 was 18,500 a month. The average net monthly loss in intervening years were:
