HC Deb 31 July 1984 vol 65 cc151-2W
41. Mr. Marlow

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how much the United Kingdom was allocated from the European social fund in the latest year for which figures are available.

Mr. Gummer

The latest year for which such information is available is 1983. In that year, training and employment schemes in the United Kingdom were allocated £321 million. This represented 29.3 per cent. of the fund budget and was the largest share of any member state that year. It was also the largest amount, and the largest share, granted to the United Kingdom since we joined the Community.

It is estimated that our allocations in 1984 will total about £348 million, 32.3 per cent of the fund. I shall write to my hon. Friend when details are known.
