HC Deb 31 July 1984 vol 65 c250W
Sir Dudley Smith

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what percentage of domestic households have main drainage or acceptable alternatives supervised by local authorities.

Mr. Waldegrave

In England and Wales 95.6 percent. of the population is connected to the sewer. The remainder are likely to be served by drainage facilities such as pail closets, septic tanks or cesspits; numbers are not available.
