HC Deb 31 July 1984 vol 65 c253W
Dr. David Clark

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he has made funds available to local authorities to pay compensation following the making of discontinuance orders in relation to developments (a) in national parks, (b) in areas of outstanding natural beauty and (c) elsewhere; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Waldegrave

There is no statutory provision for the Secretary of State to reimburse compensation payable by a local planning authority following the making of a discontinuance order. A grant has, however, been made to the Middlesbrough borough council and the Cleveland county council under the urban programme in respect of the expenses incurred by them in securing the discontinuance of a hazardous use of premises in order to promote the redevelopment of central Middlesbrough.
