asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many people in Basildon have been unemployed; what is the corresponding percentage of those eligible to work for (a) less than 26 weeks, (b) between 26 weeks and 52 weeks, (c) for more than 52 weeks and (d) at the last date for which figures are available.

The following table gives, for the Basildon jobcentre area, the total number of unemployed claimants and the numbers who had been unemployed for the lengths of time specified on 5 April 1984, the latest date for which an analysis by duration of unemployment is available. It also gives the figures expressed as percentages of the total number unemployed.
