HC Deb 31 July 1984 vol 65 c139W
Mr. Gareth Wardell

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will publish in the Official Report for each year since 1974, the number of abortions performed on girls in (a) west Glamorgan and (b) Wales, in the age groups (i) under 12, (ii) 12 to 14 and (iii) 14 to 16 years.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

Statistics of abortions performed in the age groups requested are not available for individual health districts for reasons of personal privacy as the numbers are often very small.

The numbers of abortions performed in England and Wales on residents of west Glamorgan and residents of Wales aged under 16 from 1974 to 1982—the latest date for which such information is available—are as follows:

Since there is no separate identifiable quota for Wales alone, it is not possible to relate the effects of the EC quota provisions to milk production levels in Welsh counties over the next two years. Actual levels will depend on the various steps taken by producers to adapt their production systems to take account of the new measures.
