§ Mr. HurdMy right hon. and learned Friend has received a letter dated 19 July from Mr. Grantham enclosing a copy of a statement by Mr. K. Brinson and Mr. Evans about events outside a supermarket in Croydon on 11 July, and their subsequent treatment by the police. The Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis tells me that the two men have been charged with obstruction of the highway and that their cases have yet to be heard. Mr. Brinson's statement has been recorded as a formal complaint against the police, under section 49 of the Police Act 1964. It would be wrong for me to comment on matters which may be pertinent to the criminal proceedings or the investigation of the complaint.
