HC Deb 26 July 1984 vol 64 c750W
Mr. Jackson

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what changes were made with effect from 1 April in private car mileage allowances for serving officers of the RAF; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Lee

The only change in motor mileage allowance effective from 1 April 1984 payable to serving officers of the RAF was an increase in the converted leave rate from 6.9p to 7.1p per mile.

All motor mileage allowances are reviewed annually to ensure that they take the most recent travel costs into account and are fair and reasonable. Rates payable are assessed on the basis of the travel cost most closely associated with the type of journey being undertaken and are paid, where appropriate, to all members of the Armed Forces irrespective of rank.
