Port infrastructure schemes in assisted areas may be eligible for aid from the European regional development fund; examples are the recent coal handling schemes at Workington and Ayr and one under construction in the Port of Tyne. Grant under section 8 of the Railways Act 1974 may also be available for qualifying schemes.
