HC Deb 26 July 1984 vol 64 c763W
Sir Julian Ridsdale

asked the Secretary of State for Transport which transport infrastructure schemes in the United Kingdom have been submitted to the Commission of the European Communities for support from the 1985 Community budget.

Mrs. Chalker

The following seven projects have been submitted to the Commission to be considered for support from the 1985 budget:

  1. (i) improvement of the A604 Midlands—Haven Ports route
  2. (ii) Al20 Braintree By-pass
  3. (iii) improvement of the A55 North Wales East-West route
  4. (iv) Musselburgh and Tranent By-pass
  5. (v) improvement of East Anglian Rail Links
  6. (vi) modernisation of the London Air Traffic Control Centre
  7. (vii)Manchester International Airport—terminal extension

These projects have been submitted on a contingency basis as it remains uncertain whether the 1985 EC budget will include funds for transport infrastructure, and no Council regulation on infrastructure financing beyond 1984 has yet been agreed.
