§ Lord Mottistoneasked Her Majesty's Government:
In the light of the negotiations scheduled to take place from 8th to 28th October 1984 on a Fourth International Cocoa Agreement, what assurances can be given to the chocolate manufacturing industry about the target price for cocoa under the new agreement, bearing in mind that the average price over the last 20 years has been around 100 cents per pound (in mid-1984 dollar terms) and that whenever prices have been above this level consumption has been cut back.
§ Lord BelsteadIn consultation with our European Community partners and other consuming countries, Her Majesty's Government will seek a target price for a new agreement which will take proper account of the economic realities of the international cocoa market.
