HC Deb 25 July 1984 vol 64 c697W
36. Mr. Blair

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will assess the benefits that have accrued to the United Kingdom since the visit of Mr. Botha.

Mr. Rifkind

Mr. Botha's visit enabled my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister to explain our position on a range of bilateral and South African issues. It was part of a long-term exercise through which we and other Western and African Governments must try to influence South African policies. We shall continue our efforts.
