In 1979–80 support totalling 128.9 million was provided to the aeronautical industry. In 1983–84 support, on the same basis, totalled £121.5 million. Most of this support was provided in the form of launch aid under the Civil Aviation Act 1982 which is repayable on terms designed to yield a real return on the Government's investment.
