§ Mr. Wigleyasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will take up with the Government of Iran recent allegations concerning persecution of the Baha'i community in that country and express to them the horror felt by many people in the countries of Great Britain about this situation.
§ Mr. LuceAs I made clear in my statement of 16 May, the Iranian Government are well aware of our deep concern at the plight of the Baha'i community in Iran. We 591W co-sponsored the resolution on human rights violations in Iran which was adopted by the United Nations Commission on Human Rights on 14 March. This resolution specifically mentioned the Baha'is. We shall continue our efforts together with partners in the Ten to convince the Iranian Government of the need to behave according to internationally accepted standards in this regard.
