§ Mr. Randallasked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will estimate how much the Hull fishermen and their employers have paid into the redundancy fund; and what this is worth in 1984 prices.
§ Mr. Gummer[pursuant to his reply, 23 July 1984]: No. The redundancy fund is financed by an element of the national insurance contributions — the employment protection allocation—paid by all employers since 1965 and from 1982 by all employees. In order to make the estimate requested, I would need to know the number of 618W fishermen employed in Hull-based firms in each of the last 20 years and their average earnings, and this information is not available. Currently employers pay 0.15 per cent. of earnings and employees 0.25 per cent.
