asked the Secretary of State for Employment, for each region of the United Kingdom, if he will publish the estimates provided by the careers service to the Manpower Services Commission of the total population of (a) 16-year-olds and (b) 17-year-olds, and the number and proportion of them who will (i) remain at school or in full-time education, (ii) join the labour force

The information is as follows. The figures in the two tables represent the careers services best estimates of the destinations of 16 and 17-year-olds who were eligible to leave school in the academic years 1982–83 and 1983–84. They are based on the information available in November of each year when the destination of many school leavers is still not known.
