§ Mr. Allan StewartDetails of school closures are not returned as part of the annual school census conducted in September each year, but arrangements are being made to collect and publish this information. Figures are not at present available in the form requested. Between September 1982 and September 1983 the total number of education authority schools in Scotland fell from 2,931 to 2,905, but these figures do not separately identify closures or new openings.
