§ Mr. David Atkinsonasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will meet his Romanian counterpart to ask if the August amnesty recently announced will apply to the Romanian Orthodox priest Father Gheorghe Calciu.
§ Mr. LuceWe are in regular contact with the Romanian Government through normal diplomatic channels. We take every suitable opportunity to remind Eastern European Governments of their commitments under the Helsinki and Madrid agreements. We are concerned about the case of Father Gheorghe Calciu and hope that the Romanian Government will release him soon.
