§ Mr. Alfred Morrisasked the Prime Minister if, in the light of the statement by the Secretary of State for Energy that Her Majesty's Government will seek a parliamentary debate on the inspector's report on Sizewell before a decision is taken, and the intimation from the Secretary of State for Transport that Her Majesty's Government do not propose to seek such a debate on the inspector's report on Stansted until they have taken a decision, she is satisfied with the co-ordination of policy between Departments regarding the timing of parliamentary scrutiny of issues subject to major public inquiries; and if she will make a statement.
§ The Prime MinisterThe Sizewell inquiry is still in progress. My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Energy has given no undertaking about a parliamentary debate. This would be a matter for my right hon. Friend the Leader of the House at the appropriate time.
The normal procedure following major public inquiries is for Ministers to announce their decisions and to publish the inspector's reports at that time. My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Transport and my hon. Friend the Minister for Housing and Construction propose to follow that procedure in the case of Stansted.
