HC Deb 23 July 1984 vol 64 cc413-4W
Mr. Bermingham

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many mentally handicapped patients could not be reclassified by their responsible medical officer as suffering from mental impairment or severe mental impairment following implementation of the Mental Health Act 1983.

Mr. John Patten

The question of classification of a patient as suffering from mental impairment or severe mental impairment would arise only in the case of mentally handicapped patients subject to detention under the terms of the Mental Health Act 1983. The information requested is not held centrally.
