HC Deb 23 July 1984 vol 64 cc463-4W
Mr. Peter Bruinvels

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will give a report as to the continued viability of hydro-electric power, listing all sites where it is in operation; and if he will make a statement on its future potential.

Mr. Allan Stewart

Hydro-electric stations continue to provide low cost electricity for Scotland's consumers, and the viability of the existing schemes has been proved over many years. The Scottish electricity boards regularly review the case for further hydro-electric development and can be expected to propose further schemes when they are economically justified. Details of the existing schemes can be found in annual reports of the North of Scotland Hydro-Electric Board and the South of Scotland Electricity Board for 1983–84, copies of which are available in the Library of the House.
