HL Deb 23 July 1984 vol 455 cc153-4WA
Baroness Jeger

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What progress has been made by the action group on Cyprus set up by the last Commonwealth Conference.

The Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Baroness Young)

The Commonwealth Action Group met the United Nations Secretary-General in New York last December and came to London in June where they met together and also with President Kyprianou. The Secretary-General of the Commonwealth and representatives of the group called on my right honourable and learned friend on 10th July. They discussed how the most effective support could be given to the good offices mission of the United Nations Secretary-General. I understand that further meetings are envisaged between the group and the Greek and Turkish representatives.
