HC Deb 23 July 1984 vol 64 c393W
Mr. Teddy Taylor

asked the Prime Minister if the item in the Presidency conclusions following the Fontainebleau Council to the effect that an ad hoc committee should be established to consider matters like the composing of a Common Market national anthem and the designing of a Common Market flag was agreed in discussion at the Council; and if she will make a statement.

The Prime Minister

It was agreed that a committee should be set up to consider measures to strengthen and promote the identity of the Community both for its own citizens and for the rest of the world. A Community anthem and flag will no doubt be among the ideas which will be discussed, together with other ideas, including those we have put forward in our paper "Europe—The Future".
