HL Deb 20 July 1984 vol 454 cc1807-8WA
Lord Avebury

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What instructions are given to medical officers regarding visits to prisoners in Rule 43 for reasons of good order and discipline, and whether they are satisfied that these are being observed in all prisons.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Home Office (Lord Elton)

Prison department standing orders require the medical officer to visit prisoners excluded from association as often as he considers it necessary. I have no reason to doubt that this requirement is followed.
