§ 26. Mr. Boyesasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will call for a report from the chief constables concerned on the use of road blocks on the Al road in the vicinity of Nottingham; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. HurdThe chief constable of Nottinghamshire tells me that during the miners' dispute officers in his area have frequently had to require people not to continue their journey, because the police had reason to believe that those concerned were travelling to a place where there was, or was likely to be, a breach of the peace. In particular, this action is often necessary in relation to people travelling from South Yorkshire seeking to join the A1(M) near to Blythe Top in Nottinghamshire.
