§ 42. Mr. Wallaceasked the Solicitor-General for Scotland if he will estimate the cost to public funds resulting from the discharge of High Court trials in Scotland in June 1984.
§ The Solicitor-General for ScotlandIt is not possible to provide an estimate of cost as requested. Additional costs to public funds will have been caused by the attendance of defence solicitors and counsel (in legal aid cases) and Crown witnesses in some cases set down for Glasgow and Airdrie in June which did not proceed at that time. There will be additional prosecution and police costs in relation to re-citing accused persons and witnesses. The citation of jurors for additional sittings of the High Court which have been arranged to deal with the postponed cases will also involve additional cost.
