HL Deb 17 July 1984 vol 454 c1474WA
Lord Orr-Ewing

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many of the 30 largest trade unions affiliated to the TUC are currently late in submitting their annual reports and accounts to the authorities and what action has been taken to secure prompt submission as required of public limited companies.

The Minister of State, Privy Council Office, and Minister for the Arts (The Earl of Gowrie)

I am informed by the Certification Officer that 4 of the 30 largest trade unions affiliated to the TUC are currently late in submitting their annual returns to him as required by Section 11(2) of the Trade Union and Labour Relations Act 1974. The Certification Officer deals with overdue returns by a formal reminder system followed up where necessary with meetings with the trade union involved. Formal reminders have been sent to the four unions concerned.
