asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make a statement on the advice of the Advisory Committee on the Supply and Education of Teachers to remove the mandatory requirement for teachers of the blind, deaf and partially hearing to have specialist training.

59. Mr. Ashley

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what representations he has received regarding the recommendation of the Advisory Council on the Supply and Education of Teachers that the mandatory requirement for a specialist qualification to teach hearing-impaired children should be withdrawn; and when he intends to take a decision.
