HC Deb 17 July 1984 vol 64 c115W
Mr. Chapman

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he now intends to use his reserve powers in respect of the Greater London council traffic scheme at Talgarth road.

Mr. Ridley

I am pleased to say that, following correspondence with myself and the outcry from all those people suffering from this ill-advised experiment, the GLC has recognised that the situation it had created was quite unsatisfactory. It has been forced to change its original proposals so that three lanes are once again available for eastbound traffic travelling straight ahead towards central London. I would hope that it has learnt from this episode that measures which do not pay adequate attention to traffic flows on London's strategic road network are misguided and dangerous.
