asked the Secretary of State for Transport what proportion of journeys made by British Rail in each of the last five years have been made by holders of railcards.

British Rail estimates that 10 per cent. of all rail journeys in 1983 were made by railcard holders. Figures for earlier years are not available, but BR believes that the proportion of journeys made by railcard holders over the past five years has remained broadly constant.
