The provisional figures are £59.1 million for 1985 and 58.2 million for 1986.

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he will consider making Open University courses available to mature students with fees payable over a number of years.

Mr. Brooke

Open University courses are already available for mature students and the fees are paid over the number of years it takes a student to obtain a degree. In addition, Open University students may pay course tuition fees in instalments over a period of eight months in each year that they take a course.

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what recent representations he has received about the implications of reduced funding for the Open University; and if he will make a statement on the Government's future plans for the Open University.

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science when he next intends to meet the vice-chancellor of the Open University to discuss the content of its courses.

I have no plans to meet the vice-chancellor.
