HC Deb 17 July 1984 vol 64 c93W
Mr. Speller

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will list those nations which provide members of their national legislatures with some form of diplomatic passport for international travel which is accepted for entry into the United Kingdom.

Mr. Whitney

A list of countries which provide diplomatic passports to members of their legislatures is not readily available and the information could be obtained only at disproportionate cost.

Where a member of the legislature of another country does hold a diplomaltic passport he must nevertheless qualify for entry to the United Kingdom under the immigration rules, unless exempt from control under either section 8(3) of the Immigration Act 1971 or an order made under section 8(2) of that Act. Membership of such legislature does not of itself qualify a person for exemption under these provisions.
