§ Mr. Norman Hoggasked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many days' supply is currently held in reserve by each water authority in Scotland; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. AncramSufficient water is held in the reservoirs in most parts of Scotland to last for at least two months, except in parts of Grampian region, which depends more than other authorities on direct abstraction from rivers, parts of Orkney, parts of the Western Isles and in Arran. No cause for serious concern exists at present, but as a precautionary measure authorities have issued warnings not to waste water and are imposing bans on the use of hosepipes. The situation is being watched carefully.
