§ 47. Mr. Dykesasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will assess the implications for the United Kingdom expenditure plans of the budget repayment agreement for the United Kingdom concluded at the Fontainebleau summit council on 26 June.
§ Mr. Ian StewartIt is not possible to give any precise figures at this stage. These will depend on a number of factors, including the size and composition of the Community budget, changes in our share of Community expenditure, the impact of budgetary discipline and so on. But as a result of the Fontainebleau settlement our net contribution will be substantially reduced probably to around half the figure we might have been liable to pay if there had been no settlement and the 1 per cent. ceiling had been maintained.
